The Ph.D. in Vedic Studies and Philosophy provides advanced study and research in Vedic knowledge, philosophy, spirituality, and the intellectual traditions that developed within the Vedic heritage. The program encompasses systematic study of the Vedas and associated Brāhmaṇa, Āraṇyaka, and Upanishadic literature, together with the six orthodox systems of Indian philosophy (Ṣaḍdarśana): Nyāya, Vaiśeṣika, Sāṃkhya, Yoga, Mīmāṃsā, and Vedānta.
The field includes the study of Vedic epistemology, metaphysics, ontology, cosmology, ethics, language, consciousness, Dharma, spiritual practice, and theories of knowledge and liberation. Students may undertake specialized research in any of the six Darśanas, comparative studies among the philosophical systems, particular Vedic and philosophical texts, or the historical development and interpretation of Vedic philosophical thought. The program is designed to support advanced scholarly research into the philosophical foundations, intellectual development, and continuing significance of Vedic knowledge traditions.
